Details of gruesome murder of grandpa at 3am

A 70-year-old man was yesterday lynched by a mob and his house torched in a feud over a land dispute at Minori Village in Mbeere South Sub-county of Embu.

Two vehicles, one belonging to the victim’s sister and a motorcycle were burnt to a shell during the 3 pm incident according to a police report.

Mbeere Sub-county Police Commander Gregory Mutiso, said prior to the incident, the deceased Agostino Njeru descended on the home of a relative in the company of others and brought down the house.

However, in an ugly turn of events, neighbours raised an alarm attracting the attention of villagers who came baying for his blood whereupon they lynched him and torched his house.

Mutiso the deceased’s grandchild escaped the wrath of the mob and managed to flee on time while his wife suffered minor injuries during the attack.

He said police are yet to arrest suspects but added they are following crucial leads that will assist them to apprehend those behind the act.

The victim's wife is receiving treatment at Embu Level 5 Hospital and is said to be in a stable condition while the body of the deceased is lying at the same facility's mortuary.
