A 21-year-old female bar attendant was found dead Monday morning under unclear circumstances at Sienga beach of Rusinga ward in Mbita Sub County.
The body was identified as that of Nancy Awino and was found lying on the shores of the lake by a group of fishermen who had returned to the beach after a fishing expedition in the waters of Lake Victoria last night.
The chairperson of Sienga Beach Management Joshua Miruka said the deceased was reported to have stormed out of the bar within the beach at 9 pm while screaming and disappeared into the darkness.
Miruka said that efforts by her colleagues to trace her whereabouts at night after she failed to return were in vain.
“Seems like she was being haunted by something because she was screaming while pleading with imaginary people not to kill her yet we could not see anybody around her,’’ Miruka said.
Confirming the incident, Mbita sub-county Police Commander Stanley Atavachi said that the woman was found half-naked with blood oozing from her nose.
Atavachi said that no physical injuries were found on the deceased’s body adding that they have sent a team of investigators to the ground to establish the cause of Awino’s death.
The body was later moved to Kirindo mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
