Starehe MP Charles Njagua yesterday called for the audit of multi-million CCTV project in Nairobi, saying it is not serving its intended purpose. Addressing a press conference at Parliament Buildings, Njagua said cases of insecurity within the CBD  have gone up, yet police were to use the cameras to monitor crime.

He said:

“The cameras are now being used to monitor other things such as who is walking with who in the CBD. They are being misused,”

The government rolled out Safaricom’s Sh14.9 billion National Surveillance Communication and Control System in 2015, linking all the security agencies.

Njagua called on the police to increase patrols and said he had informed Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett of insecurity cases but no action had been taken.

“I had a discussion with the IG and other security agencies.  I am concerned. The Ministry of Interior  and the county government should beef up security.”https://mpasho.co.ke/pepo-mbaya-starehe-mp-jaguar-involved-yet-another-accident-photos/

He blamed the cases of insecurity, especially muggings in daylight, partly on youth joblessness. The MP also decried the removal of boda-bodas from the CBD.

The big question is, why put the blame on jobless youth instead of creating jobs for hem to find something to do instead of stealing.
