Reports just in indicate that gunmen have stormed Moi University's Garissa campus and taken several individuals hostage.Gunshots and explosions were reportedly heard from the compound as police and military are being deployed to handle the situation.

While it is not clear just who is behind the attack on the learning institution, witnesses report heavy police presence in the area.

According to the same reports, the gunmen went into the university as most of the students were going in for morning prayers. Students within the institution report multiple casualties.

Those in the area say Kenya Defence Forces have surrounded the compound.
