There have been reports that exam cheating in Asia is widespread. The Chinese are not left out. Earlier this year, news of Indian parents climbing walls and helping their children cheat made headlines on a global scale, leaving many shocked.

The Wall Street Journal reports that more than 8,000 students were expelled from US universities last year.

The main reasons were poor grades and cheating. 8,000 is a large number of students keeping in mind that it's tens of thousands of Chinese students who get admitted to US varsities every year. Technically speaking, this is outrageous.

WholeRen, the company representing Chinese Students in the US conducted a study amongst 1,657 expelled students and came up with surprising results. Over 80 percent of the affected students were ousted because of academic dishonesty and gross performance.

In Kenya, the disciplinary action for exam cheaters includes being charged in court or being suspended from the education system for a number of years. In 2012, a student from Okok Mixed Seconday School in Homabay was jailed for two years after being caught cheating in a Geography exam. The cheating cases reflected in this year's KCSE results were 2,975.

We would like you to weigh in on this issue; does this incident lessen the credibility of Chinese graduates who are leading engineers in the world?
