When the 2016 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams results were released about a week ago, Eric Juma was one of the leading candidates after scoring 418 marks.

Actually, he was among the 5, 190 students out of the 942, 021 candidates who scored 400 marks in the exams.

Presumably, Juma's family celebrated his success and were eagerly waiting for him to join high school in a months time.

That's why its hard to swallow that fact that he has given up the ghost barely a week after excelling in his exams.

According to reports, Juma drowned in a river during a camping trip in Suna West, Migori County.

The boy was attending the Western Kenya Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Youth Camporee at Lichota when he was swept away by floods.

Efforts by area residents to retrieve his body proved futile and they are reportedly seeking help from Kenya Red Cross as the search continues.
