Former Raila Odinga's presidential chief agent Saitabao Kanchory has detailed the only time he came close to quarrelling with President William Ruto.
At the time, according to Kanchory, Ruto was the deputy president.
The lawyer said it all started after former Kajiado Central MP Joseph Nkaisserry (late) was picked as Interior CS by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his brother Memusi Kanchory sought to replace him, but lost the Jubilee Party ticket.
They then resolved to have Memusi join Raila Odinga's ODM party and when Ruto got wind of the decision, he reached out.
"While driving out of the Bush Camp, with Humprey Muturi in the passenger seat of my silver Mercedes Benz w202 C200, I received a direct call from Deputy President William Ruto. We had not talked for a long time but I still had his number.
Always the hard bargainer, William Ruto warned me that the government was determined to win the Kajiado Central by-election and that it was futile for Memusi to run on an opposition ticket," Kanchory said.
The lawyer says he told Ruto that they had already committed to the people of Kajiado Central and the decision could not be reversed.
He notes that Ruto said that the government was ready to use any means necessary to win the seat left vacant by Nkaissery.
"When William further cautioned concerning the resources and means the government was prepared to deploy to scuttle Memusi's bid, I defiantly responded that we would rather face the wrath of government than let our people down."
In his newly launched book, Why Baba is Not The 5th, the lawyer said he worked with Ruto from 2010 to 2012 where they enjoyed a very close friendship before he pulled away from his inner circle.
He describes his closeness with Ruto as one that saw his close aides Farouk Kibet and PS Nixon Korir get to him whenever they needed something from Ruto.
