The four IEBC commissioners who disapproved of the presidential election results on Monday have provided justifications for their actions.

The commissioners stated in a news release delivered by vice-chairperson Juliana Cherera on Tuesday at the Serena Hotel that the addition of the percentages of the results was a mathematical folly that defied reason.

They claimed that the total percentage of votes cast for each of the four presidential contenders was greater than 100%.

"This summation gives us a total of 100.01 percent. This translates to approximately 142,000 votes which will make a significant difference in the final results," Cherera said.

"When we demanded that we verify the results, the chairman refused and insisted on declaring and announcing the results," she added.

President-elect William Ruto received 7,176,141 votes, or 50.49 percent of the total vote, while Raila Odinga received 6,942,930 votes or 48.85 percent.

Yesterday Cherera stunned Kenyans when she and 3 other commissioners had an impromptu press conference at Serena Hotel.

This was a few minutes before Wafula Chhebuakti was supposed to announce the presidential results.

"We have done the 2022 general election in the most efficient manner. We have ensured that all the challenges have been contained."

"But some things need to be put out there as you can see the four of us are here and not at Bomas where the results are going to be announced because of the opaque nature of how this phase has been handled," Cherera said.

"We therefore cannot take ownership of this result that is going to be announced," she added.
