Property worth millions of shillings was yesterday razed down following a fire break-out at the Nanyuki prison.

Ten residential houses were burnt down during the 3am incident. The officers and their families were asleep when the fire started. No one was injured.

Resident Alice Njeri said she woke up after inhaling smoke and realised her neighbour's house was on fire.

"I screamed and woke up other people," Njeri said. Officers and their families lost everything, said prison deputy boss Joash Onyango.
