Kenya's football darling turned politician moved his parents from Land Mawe to Lavington 13 years ago.

He bought a palatial mansion in the leafy suburbs form his family.

Land Mawe is an old city estate located on the edge of Nairobi’s CBD next to Nairobi Railway Station. The estate has several, numbered block buildings, which eases identification for first-time visitors.

A block has five to 10 rooms. Due to the high demand for accommodation, landlords charge up to Sh7,000 per month for a single room.

The rooms are often cramped, stuffy and poorly lit and the toilets emit a pungent smell.

The drainage and sewerage system is a mess. Still, access to health facilities has improved the living standards of residents living here.

And security is good.

"I used to live in a thatched house where it rains and you could hear the rain beating the roof. now I'm happy to live in this house," Noah Wanyama told Citizen TV.

Here are photos of the house.
