Well, John succumbed to injuries he sustained after a gas cylinder accident. Before his death, his wife Ruth took to WhatsApp to explain what transpired, asking for well-wishers to help her raise cash to settle his hospital bill.

On Monday we had an incident at the house that has led my husband to being in the ICU since Monday. Allow me to explain. We had bought gas and when we lit it, it was not lighting well. We thought it was overfilled. So normally, my husband will just take it out and release some of the gas. So he did the same..only that this time, he did it at the balcony. Unfortunately, we had clothes hanging on the clothline. And other stuff in the balcony. Because of this, the gas did not go out when he released it. It was on the clothes and some stuff at the balcony. He immediately wanted to check if the gas is now working and went ahead to light it. The rest is history as the fire exploded. I was in the living room, I saw my husband on fire literally in the living room where he ran shouting "Baby, help me!"😭😭😭😭😭

That's when I called for help from neighbors and others who had seen the fire were already at the door. They helped me take him to Shalom hospital near where stay where he got first aid then later got an ambulance that toom him to Belleview hospital in south C where he was put in the ICU/HDU for three days. Luckily the burn is not deep to the second layer of the skin. But it is big. He did not inhale it so he is safe and out of danger,' she posted.

The Msaada Wangu hit singer also revealed that her husband was fairing on well, asking for help.

He is talking, eating on his own. They say the skin will grow back with time. They had to clean all the burned skin so they removed it all. The burn is 45%,' she wrote.

She continued,

I am kindly asking for your support financially to help him move to another hospital where the charges will be more affordable. The place he is now is 23,000 per day in the normal ward where he moved yesterday. They day it's the medication that is expensive but I believe other places will be affordable. The ICU was 60,000 a day

In an audio that has gone viral, Switch TV presenter and YouTuber Milly Chebby explained how it happened.

Last week on Monday, Ruth and her husband John recharged their gas and when they got to the house, he went to the kitchen to fix it. he noticed it was excess and he took the cylinder to the balcony and tried releasing some so that it would be okay to use.

But he didn't remove the clothes and some materials which were on the balcony. After coming back to the kitchen he lit the gas without knowing that there was excess gas on the clothes outside. His clothes caught fire immediately and it started sprea\ding. the clothes on the balcony caught fire too. He ran to the sitting room screaming 'babe help me'.

She called neighbors who acted so fast, put out the fire and rushed him to hospital. He has been doing so well until yesterday (Saturday) night when he breathed his last. it's so sad and Ruth is in her first trimester. That's the hardest part,' she narrated.
