24-year-old Killian Makuto Dunda a Technical University of Mombasa student arrested over the acquisition of heroin. 

The young man was arrested after The Moi International Airport Anti-narcotics officers based in Mombasa yesterday recovered 300g of heroin from the house of the student.

The detectives were acting on an intelligence report, which also led to the arrest of Killian at his Mshomoroni house, in Kisauni sub-county.

The detectives found wrapped in a clear polythene bag, the brownish/whitish drug which has an estimated street value of Sh1.2 million.

The exhibit tested on-site and returned a positive result for heroin.

The exhibit was secured pending further sampling at the government chemist, as the suspect awaits arraignment. 

Earlier on, on Tuesday a Tanzania woman was sentenced to 45 years in prison for having narcotics while travelling in Mombasa. 

Maimuna Jumane Amir was apprehended at the Moi International Airport back in March carrying heroin worth Ksh16 million. 

Amir had concealed the drug haul in a black bag. She was additionally fined sh 48 million for the offense. 

Dozens of traffickers have since been arrested and keep being arrested and charged in the operation.

The most commonly trafficked narcotics from Tanzania and through Uganda are heroin and cocaine according to the recent national drug survey by the National Authority for the Campaign (NACADA) against alcohol and drug abuse indicating widespread abuse of prescription medication.
