A Kasarani-based officer, Paul Kamau Mbugua, was apprehended by EACC officers on Friday for allegedly demanding a sh30,000 bribe from two brothers without specifying the offense.

The brothers had been detained at Kasarani Police Station on Thursday, Jan 25. EACC detectives revealed that Mbugua failed to record the alleged offenses in the station's occurrence book.

"EACC has arrested one Paul Kamau Mbugua, a Police Officer stationed at Kasarani Stadium Police Station who demanded Kes. 30,000/= from the complainant with the intent that, in consequence, he would release two brothers he had arrested and detained at the Police Station from the previous day, for an unknown offence, without booking them in the Occurrence Book (OB)," announced the EACC Twitter account.

The arrest, captured in a viral video, took place at the location where Mbugua had gone to collect the bribe. During the arrest, Mbugua resisted and caused a scene, wailing as he was apprehended and taken away.

"During the arrest, a minor scuffle ensued after the police officer started wailing uncontrollably when the EACC detectives informed him that he was under arrest. Attempts by the wailing suspect to resist arrest were unsuccessful," the statement further announced.

"The suspect was escorted to Kilimani Police Station where he is currently detained pending further processing today at EACC Integrity Centre Police Station."
