A General Service Unit officer has been arrested over the death of a woman who was earlier said to have committed suicide by jumping off the balcony of her apartment in Lang'ata.

The constable stationed at the GSU's Ruaraka headquarters was apprehended by Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) detectives on Thursday.

This followed a forensic analysis of the victim's phone suggesting his potential presence during Nelvin Museti's death.

"He is held at Lang'ata police station and shall be arraigned in court to face a charge of murder," the OB report read in part.

The caretaker of the apartment where Museti lived reported on January 11 that one tenant had committed suicide by jumping from the third floor of the building.

The house of the deceased was visited by the National Police Service Officer from Lang'ata after the report was made.

NPS officers found a used condom, an empty whiskey bottle, a quarter full of a 2-litre bottle of soft drink, two glasses and a half-smoked roll of bhang.

DCI based at Lang'ata commenced investigations immediately and the victim's mobile phone was analyzed.

It was then that the suspect's phone number was found to be in constant communication with her.

The suspect is said to have made some purchases from a wines and spirits shop where he paid Sh1,650.

Other purchases were made worth Sh150 each on the same day by the police officer at around 7:27 pm and 10:47 pm.

"Further analysis revealed that the subscriber proceeded and joined the victim at her apartment for the night," police said.

Police said further investigations are ongoing to establish where the drinks were bought and what happened leading to the woman's death.

Neighbours said they heard a thud outside at about 5 am after the woman had jumped off from the third floor of the house. The motive is yet to be established.
