In Machakos County, a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations candidate died.

The 21-year-old student from a small school in Yatta Sub County died on his way home from school on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in Kiumoni village, Yatta subcounty, according to Yatta subcounty police chief Jane Makau.

"He collapsed on his way home from school on Tuesday," Makau told the Star by phone on Wednesday.

The candidate is said to have died on the spot after he collapsed.

Independent sources told the Star that the deceased was a few metres from his parent's home at the Kinyaata sub location in the Kinyaata location within Ikombe division when he died.

"The candidate is the only student from the school who uses the route. So, he had to walk home alone," a source said.

The body was removed to Mbaku Funeral Home in Matuu town awaiting an autopsy.

Police have launched a probe into the incident.
