Detectives in Kisii were by Tuesday evening hunting for a woman who allegedly stabbed her estranged husband to death at a rental house in Jogoo in Kisii town Monday night.

Residents said the woman had checked into the estate around 8 pm on Monday before storming into the house where Abel Onsomu, 47 had been cohabiting with a college student.

Kevin Oyaro, a son-in-law to the deceased, said the couple has had longstanding differences which ignited a separation till the woman showed up armed with vengeance.

"They did not live together. When she appeared around and hid at the nearby cyber, not many people knew her. In fact, she committed the felony and escaped minutes before we discovered what had transpired," Oyaro told the Star.

The deceased worked as a house painter and hailed from Kiogoro, Nyaribari Chache.

Police identified the runaway suspect as Rebecca Kwamboka, 35.

The deceased, they said, was stabbed in the neck and left eye with a knife.

"He was later rushed to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment where he succumbed," Kisii Central Sub-County Police Commander Amos Ambasa said.

The assailant, he added, had stormed the house with a sharp knife which he used to attack the estranged husband.

"By then the second wife was out closing the gate. Only as she returned did she meet the co-wife fleeing, shortly after the husband was wailing from the house 'amenidunga kisu'," Ambasa said.

Detectives are trailing the suspect.
