A Siaya MCA was attacked on Saturday night, and he is currently in critical condition at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu.

Police said that Brian Anyango, also known as Otuom Polo, was repeatedly stabbed during the commotion at a funeral in his ward.

Cecilia Kemboi, the commander of the Gem Sub-County Police, stated on Sunday that the incident had been reported to the Akala Police Station.

The MCA was stabbed in the right arm and the buttocks, she informed the Star over the phone.

"The report was filed at Akala police station at 1730 hours. He was immediately rushed to Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu following the attack," Kemboi said.

"It was reported that goons ascended on the MCA who caused the injuries using sharp a object," OCPD added.

The OCPD reported that police were looking into the incident.

An angry mourner allegedly took the MCA's microphone from him during tense clashes during the burial of a teacher named Stephen Pinda in Rera hamlet of South Gem district. The MCA was stabbed in the ensuing brawl.

Top political figures from the assembly, led by Siaya County Assembly Speaker George Okode, visited the hospital Friday night to confirm the occurrence. Elisha Odhiambo, a Gem MP, was also there.

The lawmaker was transported to the hospital by a colleague, a hospital source told the Star.

He claimed that the MCA had been stabbed five times and was transported to the theatre as soon as he arrived at the location.

MCA Anyango narrowly defeated Polycarp Wanga of the ODM to win the seat in the elections held on December 8, 2022, as an independent candidate.

Because ODM candidate Nick Wanga passed away one month prior to the elections on August 9, 2022, the elections were cancelled.

The MCA, who is close to Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo, was one of the four legislators who stirred up controversy in Siaya County in the middle of last month after a picture of them meeting with senior UDA officials in Nairobi surfaced online.

Before meeting the transport cabinet secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and his ICT colleague Eliud Owalo, they had met Elisha, who had stated he would closely work with President William Ruto's administration.
