Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused Azimio La Umoja leaders of sabotaging his efforts to eradicate drug and substance abuse in the Upper Eastern region and Central Kenya.

He said the opposition party should not be visiting the region with Root Party leader George Wajackoyah as he is a bad influence on the youths since he advocates the use and plantation of bhang.

“Azimio leaders know we have a problem with alcohol and bhang and the person they are walking with is Wajackoyah. And he is the guest of honor in their meetings," Gachagua said.

The DP was speaking in Tharaka Nithi county on Sunday during the third regional stakeholder’s engagement in the fight against trade, use, abuse, and consumption of illicit brew, narcotics, and other psychotropic substances.

“What are we telling our children? This is a man who went on national television and said that bhang should not only be smoked, but encouraged people to grow it.

When you come here, come and talk your things but don’t come with Wajackoyah. When you bring Wajackoyah to this region you are simply laughing at us.” he said.

He said leaders also have a problem if they can walk with someone who claims that bhang is good while it's destroying the young generation.

“I want to ask our national leaders, to save us from this Wajackoyah thing. It is very embarrassing to keep company with such an individual,” Gachagua said.

He urged leaders to be an example to the youths and drugs and alcohol addicts.
