Former Harlequins rugby player Alex Olaba has been sentenced to six years in jail for attempting to hatch a plot to kill a witness in a gang rape case.

City court Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo in his sentencing on Wednesday said he had considered Olaba's mitigation and a probation report tabled in court.

Early this month, the court found Olaba guilty of attempting to kill a key witness in 2021.

In the gang rape case, Olaba is charged alongside Frank Wanyama, another rugby player.

The magistrate said the prosecution had proved its case against Olaba.

"Having gone through the evidence in this case, I find the accused guilty of the offence," the magistrate ruled.
