The Kenya National Highway Authority on Sunday closed the busy Mai Mahiu-Narok Highway.
The closure was due to a severe crack that occurred six Kilometres from Mai Mahiu Town towards Mai Mahiu.
In a statement, KeNHA said the crack cut across the road rendering it unsafe to motorists.
The cause of the crack has not yet been established but preliminary reports attribute it to the ongoing rains.
KeNHA said the area has in the past been affected by earth movements.
The Authority advised motorists to use alternative routes as they embark on restoration works at the affected area.
"All road users plying the Mai Mahiu - Narok route are advised to use the following alternative routes including Narok - Kisiriri - Mau Summit - Njoro turn off (B18) Road, to join Nakuru and other destinations, Narok - Bomet - Kaplong (B6) Road and connect to Kaplong - Kericho (B7) Road," KeNHA said.
