Ex-CAS Mwangangi lands role in Sakaja's administration

Her appointment which was made through a Gazette notice on Friday takes effect from April 24 for a period of three years.

Former CAS at the Ministry of Health Dr Mercy Mwangangi has landed a role in the latest appointments by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

Mwangangi has been appointed as the chairperson of the Pumwani Hospital Board by Sakaja in his changes in the various hospital boards.

Her appointment which was made through a Gazette notice on Friday takes effect from April 24  for a period of three years.

Sakaja also named Evalyne Ikwii Omasaja, Zahra Mohammed, Ustadh Hassan Ali Amin, Saidi Motokaa and Ali Joram Juma Mkwambaa as members to the board.

Mwangangi rose to the limelight during the Covid-19 pandemic when she would frequently give updates on the virus situation in the country.

In December 2022, she was appointed as the Director of Health Systems Strengthening at Amref Health Africa, Kenya office.

The youthful medic has also served as a member of a task force formed by Governor Sakaja last year to review and propose reforms for the health sector in Nairobi.

The task force was formed by Sakaja in September 2022 after an impromptu visit to Mama Lucy Hospital.

Kenya Healthcare Federation CEO Githinji Gitahi led the task force with Kenyatta University Hospital chairperson Olive Mugenda, Anastasia Nyalita, Dorcas Kemunto, William Charles Fryda, Karei Mwenda and county secretary Jairus Musumba as members.
