Lawyer Miguna Miguna has opened up on why former Prime Minister Raila Odinga put in little effort to defend him when he was being deported.

In a statement on Wednesday, Miguna said Raila was fine with the Human rights violations the then government had committed against him.

He insisted that it was because the Azimio leader feared he had become too powerful and would dethrone him as the opposition figure.

"When despot Uhuru Kenyatta ordered Matiang’i and Kibicho to blow up my house, abduct, illegally detain and torture me, conman @RailaOdinga and his cronies in ODM celebrated. The conman never visited my destroyed house," Miguna said.

"He never called my wife. He didn’t care about my children and family members. He considered gross human rights against me to be okay because he feared that I had become too popular with the people and would be unstoppable if I wasn’t killed or forcefully removed from Kenya," Miguna said.

The lawyer added that Raila then yielded into a handshake with Uhuru as a means of rebranding.

Miguna said the former PM wanted to be seen as a peacemaker, while he was branded the bad guy.

He further noted that at no point did Raila try to defend his rights even as he made attempts to return to the country after forced deportation.

"He did that because he is a certified coward and traitor. A man so petrified of visionary Luos capable of replacing him!"

"After my first return from exile on March 26, 2018, and despot Uhuru Kenyatta’s refusal to obey court orders and grant me entry into the country, @RailaOdinga didn’t address the press at the JKIA, didn’t condemn the brutality with which I had been treated, and my detention at a tiny toilet at the airport," he added.

Miguna emphasised that the ODM leader has no moral authority to lecture Kenyans about the rule of law, Bill of Rights, human rights, or abuse of power.

Miguna was in forced exile in Canada since 2018, and he only returned to Kenya after the election of William Ruto as the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya.

His return was initially barred by red alerts that had been issued by the Kenyan government.
