CNN international reporter Larry Madowo and Lawyer Miguna Miguna have reacted after Elon Musk restored their verification badges on Twitter.

Taking to the same platform, Larry expressed shock at Twitter's decision to return verification badges to users and organizations with over one million followers.

“I woke up to a blue checkmark again. I haven’t paid for Twitter Blue.

“Reports say Elon Musk has given it back to “legacy verified” accounts with over 1 million followers. What’s going on?,” Madowo said.

Mainstream media houses and prominent personalities were busy fighting off fake news being spread by their impostors.

On the other hand, Miguna also expressed shock at realizing that his blue tick is back.

“Someone seems to have paid for my blue tick. My friend ⁦ @smutoro ⁩: was this you?,” Miguna wrote.

Lawyer Ahmednasir also tweeted questioning why Elon Musk and his team had returned verification badges to a few people.

“Looks like @elonmusk paid for my Twitter subscription and restored the blue tick @WehliyeMohamed,” Ahmednasir said.

Miguna, Ahmednasir, and Madowo are among those who vowed not to pay for verification badges.

Musk announced that Twitter users will need to part with Sh1073 ($8) to keep their blue badges.

However, it's not yet clear if Musk will return blue ticks to all accounts that were verified or not.

Many prominent personalities across the world condemned the move - stating that they will not pay to keep their badges.

Some of Kenya's most-followed people including Narc leader Martha Karua, Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi, Azimio Spokesperson Makau Mutua, and CNN Journalist Larry Madowo Sunday woke up with their badges back.'

Media houses; The Star, Citizen News, and Kenyans also got their blue verification badge back.

Former US President Donald Trump, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, Footballer Christiano Ronaldo, and musician Beyonce, CNN journalist Larry Madowo who had lost their badges also got them back.

On Friday, some Twitter users suffered a blow after owner Elon Musk removed the blue verification badge after they failed to pay a monthly subscription fee of Sh972 ($8) for Twitter Blue.

The move saw some politicians, celebrities, media companies, and journalists lose their badges.
