Garissa-bound bus accident, multiple casualties reported

Several passengers have been rushed to Thika Level Five Hospital for emergency treatment following an accident involving a Rayan Coach Company bus.

The bus was traveling from Nairobi to Garissa when it crashed near ZEN Petrol station in Maguguni.

Eyewitnesses reported that the bus was speeding at the time of the accident.

Officers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) were quickly deployed to the scene.

“The bus traveling at a high speed and those who sustained injuries have been rushed to Thika Level 5 hospital for emergency treatment,” sources said.

The sources further noted that it is not yet clear how many individuals succumbed or sustained injuries.

Upon calling the bus company for a comment, a staff who didn’t identify himself said he was not authorised to comment on the issue.

“I can’t comment on the accident as I’m not allowed to speak, let me connect you to the responsible office," he said as he hung up.

This is not the first accident that has occurred along the busy Thika-Garissa Road, a few years ago, 17 people died in yet another grisly accident along the Thika-Garissa Highway.

A Nissan matatu that was headed to Matuu from Thika collided with a lorry that was heading towards Thika near Makutano in Kilimambogo, Thika East.
