Police have revealed that Migori residents went ahead to loot instead of rescuing victims of the Migori accident that left seven people dead.
The accident happened at around 7 am after the driver lost control of a lorry and rammed into boda boda riders in Migori town. The lorry was ferrying rice to Isebania when the accident happened.
Migori county commander Mark Wanjala said after the accident, the first people who arrived at the scene decided to loot rice instead of offering first aid to victims.
"While others were in need of first aid, members of the public who arrived decided to start by looting rice from the lorry which is sad," he said.
Within a short while, an entire load of rice, amounting to about 100 bags were carted away by members of the public.
"Police had to secure the victims first," Wanjala said.
At least a dozen people were rushed to Migori Referral Hospital with traffic police officers diverting the traffic away from town as rescue operations continue.
Police say three are in critical condition.
