Man who died after matatu push to be buried on Tuesday

Nahashon Ng'ang'a, a victim of a Matatu push along Thika Highway will be buried next week on Tuesday at Saba Saba, Wathiani Village, Maragua Constituency.

Ng’ang’a was working for Lopha Sacco, plying the Nairobi-Ruiru route since 2017 as a tout.

He allegedly succumbed to injuries he sustained when he was pushed from a speeding Matatu after he allegedly differed with his driver over cash.

Ruiru police Commander Alex Shikondi on Thursday told the media that they are investigating the incident.

"While there were no eyewitnesses to the accident, we have initiated an investigation and are encouraging anyone who may have seen the incident to come forward and provide their account on record," he stated.

The deceased’s brother Daniel Waweru told the media that the post-mortem exercise will be conducted Friday at Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital to determine the cause of his death.

He noted that the burial preparation is ongoing and petitioned the police to investigate the incident and arrest those who were involved.

“The burial preparations will be held next week in Saba Saba, Maragua constituency as we still push for his justice," he said.

Nahashon Ng'ang'a sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education in 2008 at Saba Saba secondary school having done his KCPE in 2007 at Saba Saba Saba primary school.

Ms. Mary Wangu, the deceased Mother described her son as hard-working and requested the police to investigate what happened.

This isn’t the first incident of Kenyans dying after being pushed from a moving matatu.

In July 2017, a driver and his conductor in Nairobi and a pump attendant were sentenced to death for sexually assaulting a female passenger in 2014 at a petrol station in Githurai 44.

Earlier in 2018, a student of Nairobi Institute of Business Studies, only identified as Doreen, was also pushed from a bus belonging to Zam Zam sacco. The driver, as well as the conductor, were arrested.

In 2021, a woman died after being thrown out of a moving matatu by the conductor.
