Rosemary Wanjiru crowned winner of Tokyo Marathon 2023

• In 2022 the Tokyo Marathon had 20,000 entrants and marked a return to normalcy for the race after two years of pandemic disruption.

Rosemary Wanjiru was on Sunday crowned this year’s Tokyo Marathon champion in Japan.

Wanjiru won in a new personal best time of two hours, 16 minutes, and 28 seconds ahead of Ethiopians Gamechu Tsehay (2:16:56) and Ashate Bekere (2:19:11) who were in second and third positions respectively.

Wanjiru managed to break from the leading pack at the 30km mark and increased her pace leading all the way to the finish line.

The racewas in 2022 Brigid Kosgei, won the race.

Tokyo Marathon 2022, Mens category was won by Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya, the greatest marathoner of all time.

He won the Tokyo Marathon in 2:02:40.

In 2020, as COVID-19 was just beginning to spread around the globe, the race was held for elite runners only.

Last year, the race was initially pushed from the spring to the fall before it was canceled entirely.
