Body of missing Lang'ata man found rotting in his house

A Lang'ata man, 40, who had been missing was found dead in his house after a suspected suicide.

Martin Nyaga had been missing for days before his body was discovered in his house at Lynks Apartment.

The body was discovered by the house caretaker who was then taking a new tenant around to view the houses on offer on Saturday.

The caretaker told police he was taken aback by a foul smell that emanated from the apartment where Nyaga stayed.

He added the deceased had not been seen for days and after police arrived and broke into the house, they found the body hanging from the ceiling with a rope tied around his neck.

Lang'ata police boss Monica Kimani said the body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and probe.

Elsewhere, a 15-year-old boy died by suicide in Kandutu village, Mutuini, Dagoretti.

His mother told police she went to work and when she came back later in the evening, she found the deceased identified as Daniel Njenga dead with the body hanging on the roof of their guest house.

Police said they established that the boy had dropped out of school and agreed to return in the company of his aunt but went missing.

He was to return to school this weekend when he decided to hang himself.

No suicide note was recovered at the scene. The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

In South B, a man aged 31 was found dead after a suicide mission.

The body of Peter Karanja was found in his bathroom with a clothe around his neck.

Elsewhere in Kuria, a suspect who was wanted after failing to attend court over defilement was saved by cellmates after a failed suicide.

The suspect had tried to hang himself in the cells after he had been arrested and placed in custody at Ntimary police station.

Kennedy Mwera was rushed to the hospital following the failed suicide mission pending his arraignment.

Police say there has been an increase in cases of suicide in the country.

Suicide incidents have been on the rise in the past few days.

Suicide is a leading cause of death nowadays, officials say.

The World Health Organization says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties and financial difficulties.

Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder.

WHO rates suicide as a serious global public health issue that is among the top 20 leading causes of death worldwide.
