Starehe MP Charles Njagua aka Jaguar wrote,

Coronavirus originated from China. They have to write off Kenya's Sh.650 billion debt. We can channel repayments to small traders and informal settlements like Mukuru. We cannot convince people who live from hand to mouth to stay at home unless we provide for them. #GikombaCorona.

He was criticized for the remarks and many likened his thinking capacity to that of a child who has never stepped in school.

The reasoning from those we call our leaders is more life-threatening than Corona, how viable do you think your proposal is Jaguar,' Edwin Omambia wrote.

'Somewhere out there is a tree, tirelessly producing oxygen so you can breathe. I think with such thinking you owe it an apology,' Waigoko Kimenge commented.

Controversial Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, on the other hand, shared a post appealing to President Uhuru to bar landlords from collecting rent and Kenyans in urban centers from paying for water among other bills.

It is my Prayer that HE.Uhuru Kenyatta suspends payments of water bills, rent for businesses and Electricity bills as Coronavirus continues to spread and destabilize business across the country.

Kenyans to Pray for God’s intervention and continue washing their hands to reduce the spread of coronavirus,' read Babu's post.

He received backlash online and one Richie Ogee commented on his post saying,

Your proposal is absurd and myopic to say the least. As a legislator chosen to ably represent the people I would have expected you to table a motion before parliament for consideration of a stimulus package to combat the economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic. This would ideally cover businesses from shutting down and laying off workers during this period. By extension it would ensure the workers based on family size etc continue getting a modest pay from Govt as sustenance money as they stay away from their workplaces during the lockdown. Oh well,. I’m just a common mwananchi.. you are the Mhesh..🚶🏿‍♂️

'Unataka sisi landlords tukule nini' Sirmba wrote.

Have you stopped to ponder that Landlords are not inanimate objects; they are our fathers, mothers, brothers, parents etc. They are bread winners who have put their sweat in investments expecting returns which they in turn fend and feed their families with. Suspending their income is cutting off their livelihood. STOP appealing to people’s emotions in such times by playing populist politics! Seek more viable solutions; think harder!!' Praxx posted.

'M.Ps should also refuse to take up their salaries and C.D.Fs' Ahmed Jamal wrote.
