Mombasa governor Hassan Joho has talked about his close relationship with his late mum saying that he lost a best friend when his mum died.

Joho's mum succumbed to cancer and her death was not easy on the family. Her illness was prolonged and at one point she was in a coma.

Speaking about his loss during an interview on Churchill show, he said,

'She (mum) went into a coma for sometime and  when she came out she summoned everyone in the family.

She then requested everyone to support me in everything that I would ever need.'

Joho added that her mother was very strict and that even in his old age she would still watch over him.

'If she caught me with a woman she would make sure you got married.

In Muslim cultures it's very easy to get married.

She caught me once and I pleaded with her not to embarrass me. I even promised her that would be the last time she ever saw me with a woman.

Thankfully she understood, at that time I was an MP.

I thank God that he gave me an opportunity to take care of her even on he last moments.

It's not easy living without her.'
