The Occupy Parliament protests on Tuesday June 18 provided a moment for Kenyans to express their views on the controversial proposed Finance Bill 2024.
The Finance Bill has sparked significant public outcry, with critics arguing that it will impose undue financial burdens on citizens already grappling with economic hardships.
The streets of Nairobi especially along Kimathi Street was the center of the action as police lobbed teargas to disperse the protesters who kept emerging and making pockets of resistance in the city.
Dozens were arrested as lawyers made efforts to have them released.
Among the protestors was a young woman who recorded a video explaining her experience with teargas, and suggesting the government should shop around for flavours.
She can be seen walking with another young man, recounting her day at the protests as she informed him she was not happy that teargas doesn't come with flavours.
"Petition to have teargas flavorcoz hamuezi kuwa mnatutumia pili pili flavor wekeni mint," she expresses her unhappiness.
She points out an example the authorities can use
"Copy vape mtengeneze gas zingine," she informs the police.
"Ama we unaona aje," she asked the young man beside her. He agreed adding, "True, ni minty eyes," as the two bonded over how teary they are feeling with a burning sensation.
"Shop shop around, lets invest in that," she advised authorities.
