A man has managed to deny his twin daughters and prove himself to be 'unable to impregnate a woman' after his ex-wife got pregnant while they were in the process of sharing love within a group of three.
The New Zealand man won the case earlier this year but documents from the unusual case were only revealed by the Family Court this week, the NZ Herald reported.
The court heard the former couple separated two years ago but officially divorced three months ago. After their divorce, the man wanted to remove his name from the birth certificate of the twins.
Their mother claimed he was trying to avoid any childcare responsibilities while the man said he wanted to 'defend his honour'.
They had previously adopted children together but the man had had a vasectomy about 12 years before the girls, who are now teenagers, were born.
During the pregnancy of the twins, the former couple were engaged in a threesome with another man - believed to be the biological father of the twins.
Their mother told the court that their relationship with the second man was to help her get pregnant - something her ex-husband denied.
"Whether this was for fun or to have a baby is still a matter of disagreement but the fact is that the parties were in this arrangement at the time of the pregnancy," Judge Traicee McKenzie said in her decision, the NZ Herald reports.
'As soon as the parties separated, relations deteriorated and these requests were made.' Despite not believing he was the father, the twins took the ex-husband's name and had his name listed on the birth certificate - which he wanted removed.
Their mother emphasized that her ex-husband was involved in the lives of the twins and took them on vacation, bought gifts for the girls calling him 'Dad'.
