A drama ensued outside Embu level five hospital mortuary on Wednesday when a family found the body of their kin had been taken by another family.

The drama started when a family which had gone to collect the body for a burial service received a body, different from that of their kin.

They were informed that the body of their kin was collected by another family which had already left for the burial.

Daisy Karimi, the deceased, from Gatunduri village in Kiangima location in Embu West died last week at Embu level 5 hospital.

Karimi, a mother of four was to be laid to rest at her matrimonial home at Gatunduri village in Embu West.

Purity Munyi, sister to the deceased blamed the mortuary management for negligence leading to the confusion adding that this would result in huge unplanned expenses.

Johnson Nyaga, a relative to the deceased said the mortuary management had kept them waiting for the body for long, only to end up releasing the wrong body.

The family and friends who had turned up wondered how the mortuary management and the other family, with all documents, could have made such a grievous mistake of releasing the body of their kin.

The burial for their kin had already taken place in Kathagari in Embu West by the time the wrong body was released to them.

Embu level five hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Daniel Mugendi said the family which had come to collect the body of their deceased wrongly identified their kin.

He said the family which collected the wrong body had necessary documentation but physical identification challenged them which led to collecting the mix-up.

However, Dr Mugendi said they are trying to do the necessary documentation through the court for a court order to have the body exhumed and a switch of the bodies done for each family to have their body.
