Commonwealth and African Javelin champion Julius Yego on Sunday set a new African and IAAF Diamond record in Birmingham, England. Yego’s 91.39m throw was the furthest anyone has gone in 10 years breaking another Kenyan record at the IAAF events for the third time in four successive outings. It was up for debate though, as the sector lines hadn’t been extended beyond 87 metres.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott was second with World champion Vitezslav Vesely of the Czech Republic coming in third after two faulty throws. Yego’s performance is not only an African record and IAAF Diamond League record, but was also the best throw in the world since 2006.
