Imenti Central Member of Parliament Gideon Mwiti can now only defend himself in court after losing a bid to block his trial, in a case in which he is accused of rape.

The lawmaker allegedly raped a married woman on 21 March 2015 at a club in Westlands and was formerly charged with the offence, as well as intimidation in April.

Justice Weldon Korir also dismissed Mwiti's allegations that the prosecution and the victim's Lawyer tampered with the evidence during investigations.

The MP further told the court that the victim's lawyers had tampered with evidence which is likely to reduce chances of fair trial arguing that the lawyers having recorded statements as witnesses in the case.
