Hot 96 and Citizen TV presenter Jeff Koinange was raised in a humble background. His mother Mary Mbiu revealed so on Sunday while attending his event at Country Roads at Thika Greens Golf Resort.

Mary together with her late husband Frerdick Mbiyu Koinange were great parents to Jeff before the hand of death struck.

The 82-year-old woman said her son wasn't born with a silver spoon as many assume. Many associate him with the prominent wealthy family from Central Kenya.

People should not associate the name Koinange with riches because Jeff was raised in a normal family set up.

The late, Fredrick Mbiyu Koinange, was the brother to Mbiyu Koinannge and eldest son of Koinange Wa Mbiyu, a prominent Kikuyu chief during Kenya's colonial period.

Mbiyu Koinange was a politician from Kenya. He served in the government and cabinet of Jomo Kenyatta, Kenya's first president, for 16 years

Jeff's father was the first Kenyan to open a car dealership, died in 1966 when Jeff was only two years old.

The media personality's mother went ahead to talk about his upbringing and advising young ladies, she said,

Don't go after the wealthy man but content and patient with whatever you have because one day you'll make it in life.

The Hot 96 presenter is very supportive of his mother and generally respects women. In a past media interview, he said,

RESPECT! MY MOTHER, AGAIN, A YOUNG WIDOW, SHE DIDN’T REMARRY, SHE WAS COMMITTED TO EDUCATING HER CHILDREN, AND SHE’S STILL ALIVE, SHE’S OVER 70 YEARS OLD NOW. THAT’S RESPECT RIGHT THERE.

Adding:

 AND EVERY TIME I INTERVIEW WOMEN ON MY SHOW, I REALISE IT’S LONG OVERDUE THAT AFRICANS GAVE WOMEN THE MANTLE. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE A LONG TIME AGO. IF WOMEN WERE TO RUN THIS CONTINENT, OH, I TELL YOU, IT WOULD BE, ‘SMOKING!’

Talking about his father, Jeff said,

I DON’T REGRET ANYTHING. I’M GLAD HE [my father]  WASN’T THERE IN A WAY.

He added,

ALSO BECAUSE IF HE WAS AROUND, WE MIGHT HAVE ENDED UP AS SOME REALLY SPOILT BRATS AS KIDS, AND I’M GLAD WE DIDN’T END UP THAT WAY.
