Renowned film producer and director Eugene Mbugua has shared his journey in the making of his Multimillion film empire - D&R studios.
In an interview with Mpasho, Eugene shared that he started practicing entrepreneurship during his days at campus.
"University education opens one's mind, you got to learn how to think. I was a part-time student through Uni...I would go to class from 5 PM to 9 PM, during the day I would work. University taught me how to think," he said.
Mbugua was doing more than one hustle and at the same time pursuing his undergraduate studies.
"I had a bunch of businesses while at the University, a video game arcade, selling movies, a tour company that failed, I was teaching at Makini School."
The 'Young Rich' producer added that he was not born an entrepreneur.
"Mine came as a necessity, I needed to survive, be able to save money to live. I wouldn't say I was entrepreneurial at birth, it was an instinct that came naturally," he said.
Mbugua joined the film stage after his cousin took him to a film set, where he was an extra on set and immediately started practicing to make his own short films.
After his film was rejected by multiple media houses, Mbugua's breakthrough came just before he hit 22 years.
"I held my first million just before I turned 22. I started as an extra, doing odd jobs, then started teaching film in primary school. This whole time I really wanted not to climb the ladder but own it.
I had written 'Young Rich' and was pitching it everywhere but it was hard because I had no track record. In 2013, I was 22 at the time, I got some interest from K24 and the first month I made a million in revenue," he explained.
