Members of the LGBT community staged protest in the streets of Nairobi on Thursday.
The community is protesting over a proposal by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha to eliminate gay students from boarding schools.
In December 2021, the Education CS said that gay students should not go to boarding schools, but instead day schools near their homes.
Now, the LGBT community is faulting Magoha for profiling the students according to their sexual orientation.
"We have grown in a country that has pressed us, when we try to express ourselves, a system comes for us. We can no longer be silenced...our children are going to be safe. We will do whatever it takes, if we must die, we will die so that the next generation can stay alive.
We will no longer stay in a system that takes advantage of queer people...where a Cabinet Secretary can come up with a directive that sexualises children. They are supposed to be protected and not sexualised," a woman leading the protests said.
"No more violence! Queer rights are human rights! We will no longer be silenced! Queer people, lesbians, gays, transgender people exist in Kenya," the protesters chanted.
