Musician Reuben Kigame has opened up on the loss of his wife on September 5, 2006 .

When mercy died in a road accident, she left behind two children that Reuben had to take care of.

But how does one overcome the pain of losing a loved one?

In an interview with Mpasho, Reuben Kigame shared that healing from such a loss is a process that takes time.

"Nobody ever gets over the loss of someone special easily, sometimes its a lifelong experience. There are people you will never get over.

You got to move from stage of denial to acceptance, then learning to cope.

Coping is not easy, you've got to exercise both faith and a move to normalcy. The sooner you get back, the better coz you can lose your mental health," he said.

The presidential aspirant also advised that people should be careful with what they tell the bereaved.

"For those who are close to people who have lost loved ones, there are things you should never say. Like; 'dont worry, itaisha...God loved him/her more than we did.'"

Years after Mercy died, Reuben found love in her close friend, Jullie.

But how did she settle on Jullie?

"It took my children to know that it was Julie. I asked them 'if you were to have another mother, who would that be?' They both said Julie. Not only was she a friend to their mum, but somebody they interacted with very well."
