A Makueni court has committed a man to nine months of Community Service for threatening to kill his mother.

The accused, Jeremiah Mutinda,  who appeared, Wednesday,  before Chief Magistrate, James Mwaniki, was found guilty of the offence he committed on March 16  this year at Kinze village in Iuani Location.

The Court heard that the accused, while armed with a machete, threatened to kill his mother, Martha Mwelu, after a disagreement over his younger sister’s dowry.

Mutinda is said to have demanded a share of the dowry to purchase a motorbike.

The prosecution told the Court that the two have had long-lasting disagreements since 2007.

A pre-sentence report by Probation Officer, Rose Malewa, had recommended a non-custodial sentence for the accused because he was a first offender and was drunk when he committed the offence.

The Court, however, cautioned the accused against overindulging in intoxicating substances.
