Three suspects who have been attacking motorists along the Southern bypass in Nairobi have been arrested.

Brian Mwangi (25), Nickson Muchiri (25) and the 15-year-old were caught with machetes and a motorbike, planning to stage the attack.

The 15-year-old tried to escape into Ngong forest, but Langata police officers caught up with him.

"Brian Mwangi and Nickson Muchiri aged 25, were arrested following a well executed operation, mounted by Langata based Police Officers. A third suspect aged 15, was also arrested as he fled to the nearby Ngong forest, in a bid to evade arrest. Two motorbikes used by the criminals as their getaway means were also impounded, in the meticulous operation staged by the officers," read a statement by DCI.

The operation was launched after a spike in attacks on motorists along the Southern bypass at night.

Last week, police arrested 6 other suspects in connection to the robberies along the highway.

This was after a man who had alighted from his car to let his 3-year-old attend a call of nature.

Lang'ata police boss Benjamin Mwanthi appealed to motorists who have been attacked along the busy highway to report and help identify the suspects within seven days.
