A family from Homabay county is mourning the passing on of their bread winner Okoth Alfred Otieno.

Mr. Okoth who was the Deputy Principal at Mbani Mixed Secondary, Ndhiwa Sub-county, Homabay County succumbed to liver cancer on the night 31.8.2017 at the Nairobi West  Hospital.

He was undergoing treatment to enable air evacuation to India for a liver transplant just a few hours after his travel documents were procured.

Otieno left Kenyans in tears after he shared his story last month urging them to help him raise money for his treatment in India after he was told that he was only remaining with three months to live.

"Dear friends and colleagues,

I am Otieno Alfred Okoth A Deputy Principal at Mbani Mixed Secondary, Ndhiwa Sub-county, Homabay County.

Two months ago I was diagnosed of cancer of the liver that was on its end stage. I was immediately placed on Chemotherapy. However, this isn't helping as symptoms indicate that the life of the liver is coming to an end. The only option left is liver transplant which is costly and can only be done in India.

The Doctor says I have three months to live. The cost of a transplant is 8 million this kind of money is definitely beyond my reach. That's why I seek your support to enable me to raise money within time to save my life"

Please help"

The post went viral and Kenyans of goodwill contributed towards his medical kitty and Otieno was to be flown to India for further treatment but unfortunately, he passed away.
