Kenyan-born Winfred Yavi won a gold medal for Bahrain in the women's 3000m steeplechase.
Winfred won the women’s 3000m steeplechase in 8:52.76 with a heroic final lap, beating defending Olympic champion Petruth Chemutaii.
The Olympic champion won hearts with her story of being denied a chance to compete for Kenya, and deciding to run for Bahrain.
Yavi had an encounter with US rapper Snoop Dogg. He told her in a tiktok video how proud he was of her.
The video has generated thousands of comments from Kenyans impressed and happy for the gold medalist.
"Yes, Sir Big Snoop with the Gold medalist. My baby knows how to run. Run girl! Run!" he cheered her on in a short video in the audience stand.
Snoop has been hired by American-based media house NBC, to run commentary for US athletes at the Olympics in Paris.
The “Gin and Juice” rapper, aka Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, is reportedly being paid $500,000 a day plus expenses.
These details were leaked by Henry L McNamara – a New York-based venture capitalist and Forbes 30-Under-30 honoree – who on his X, formerly Twitter, said
“Sat next to an NBC exec at dinner,” McNamara wrote on August 4. “He said Snoop gets paid $500,000 a day plus expenses to be here promoting [the] Olympics."
He is scheduled to provide commentary for NBC until the end of the Olympics on Sunday, August 11. According to McNamara, Snoop Dogg will allegedly cash in a whopping total of $8m for the entire 16-day span of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
