Controversial socialite, brand influencer, and self-proclaimed fashion icon, Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, has finally been released from prison.

Bobrisky had served 4 out of the 6 months he had been handed after being found guilty.

The 31-year-old popular Nigerian cross-dresser had been arrested back on April 4, 2024, and the news was confirmed by the EFCC in a statement on their Instagram page.

This is after they received a report of the socialite spraying and flaunting wads of new naira notes at the premiere of the film Beasts of Two Worlds on March 24, 2024.

Shortly after his release, the flamboyant brand influencer cautioned his fellow countrymen against mishandling their currency noting that one, just as he had, could unfortunately find themselves in jail over non-violent crimes.

"Don’t spray money, unless you’ll be a landlord inside Kirikiri. It’s not just about killing or any criminal activity, something light like this can take you there," the cross-dresser said during a press interview.

Finishing up the controversial fashion icon highlighted, "I’m only focusing on my friends who were there for me, and I’m grateful. I’m not thinking about any other person,"

Okuneye was charged by the EFCC on four counts bordering on naira abuse and he pleaded guilty before Justice A.O. Awogboro of the Federal High Court, Lagos.

Justice Awogboro further instructed that the accused must serve his sentence in a male prison despite being a public transgender who has over the years claimed to be a woman.

Throwing money in the air is a sign of appreciation commonly done at Nigerian weddings and celebrations. This is technically an offence as the notes then fall to the ground where they can be trodden on before the celebrants team collects the money.

During the trial, Bobrisky said she hadn't been aware of the ban. Until now it has been rare for people to be prosecuted for it.

In February a cis-gender, heterosexual actress identified as Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin received a similar sentence for the same offence.
