Controversial socialite, brand influencer, and self-proclaimed fashion icon, Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, is not taking his recent legal setback lying down.

After being handed a maximum six-month sentence by a Federal High Court in Lagos for "spraying" naira banknotes at a film premiere he's now taking his case to the Court of Appeal.

His lawyer, Bimbo Kusanu, is leading the charge, arguing that Bobrisky's sentence is a little over the top and merciless, especially considering his client's clean record.

Kusanu is calling for a more lenient punishment asking the court to release Bobrisky from prison and instead charge him ₦50,000 fine per count.

That translates to about 5,500 per count in Kenyan shillings. The fashion icon 10 days ago, had been charged with 4 accounts of abusing the naira.

According to the lawyer, there's room for a lighter touch under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, and his client who has no previous records and who maintains they did not know throwing money in the air had been banned in the country should be accorded this.

The judge ruling over the case, Justice Awogboro while sentencing Bobrisky noted they had settled on the conviction so that it would serve as a deterrent to other citizens who were fond of "abusing" the naira.

Justice Awogboro further instructed that the accused must serve her sentence in a male prison despite being a public transgender who has over the years claimed to be a woman.
