Murugi Munyi has embarked on a new weight loss journey aimed at shedding the kilos she has gained. Under the guidance of a specialist, she receives a weekly injection administered every Wednesday.
Updating her fans on her progress, Murugi shared a picture showing the difference in weight over the last three months.
"It's basically a weight loss aid injection that you get weekly. It reduces your appetite and keeps you feeling full for longer by delaying stomach emptying. It has the same effect as bariatric surgery but without the surgery, lol," Murugi explained.
According to medical journals and websites, Semaglutide injection is typically used to treat type 2 diabetes and, when combined with diet and exercise, helps control blood sugar levels.
It also reduces the risk of heart attack, stroke, or death in patients with type 2 diabetes, obesity, and heart or blood vessel disease.
Semaglutide belongs to a class of medications known as GLP-1 receptor agonists, which mimic the GLP-1 hormone released in response to eating, interacting with the brain to suppress appetite and signal fullness.
"The journey so far has been amazing, even life-changing. I've lost 18 kgs this year, with 12 kgs shed since I started on Semaglutide," Murugi shared, acknowledging some side effects.
"Managing nausea was challenging initially, especially in the first month, but my body has adjusted."
Murugi aims to lose another 25 kilos, making her total weight loss goal 43 kilos. "I still have a long way to go—18 down, 25 to go," she added.
A fan inquired about the cost of the procedure, to which Murugi responded, "I'm not sure, hun. From my research, Body by Design Ke offers the most affordable option locally."
Body by Design advertises the procedure on their Instagram page, stating it costs Ksh160,000 for a weekly Semaglutide weight-loss injection, which can help lose up to 2-4 kgs per week.
