Comedian and activist Eric Omondi has revealed that he has decided to return to his hometown, Sega in Siaya County, this week as preparations for the burial of his younger brother, Fred Omondi, are underway.

Last week, the funeral planning committee announced that Fred would be buried on the last Saturday of June after being involved in an accident two weeks ago in Nairobi.

Speaking to entertainment reporters last weekend after the completion of the Last Laugh event for Fred, organized by fellow comedians at the Carnivore grounds in Nairobi, Eric said he decided to go home to find some peace.

Omondi said that initially, he couldn’t believe that his younger brother had passed away, but now the reality has begun to hit him, and he decided to return to the village as a form of therapy.

“This week will be really tough, I’m exhausted but we’ll get through it. At least the committee is handling most of the arrangements for now. I’m heading to the village today. You know, back home there are trees, rivers… it’s like therapy, but it has been very tough this past week,” Eric said.

“You know, the truth is now hitting me that we’ve lost Fred, it’s hitting me now. Terence told me I would cry, right now I’m in denial, I’m in shock.

And because of that, I feel overwhelmed and that’s why I don’t want to stay in Nairobi. I’ve decided to go home and stay there, I’ll return for the memorial service when we collect the body,” he added.

Regarding how he received the news of his younger brother’s death, Eric, who appeared very thoughtful, said:

“The news of Fred’s death hit me really hard. Terence called me, so that day my phone was off, Lynne woke me up at 6 am saying Terence wanted me to call him immediately.

When I called him, he told me to rush to Mama Lucy Hospital because Fred had been in an accident. When I heard it was a motorcycle accident, I was very confused because I know motorcycle accidents are usually bad.”
