Alikiba poaches ex-BBC presenter Salim Kikeke to join his Radio station

• Salim Kikeke parted ways with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) after 20 years in April 2023. 

• Salim who joined BBC back in 2003 hails from Tanzania

Former news anchor and radio host Salimi Kikeke has officially joined Crown Media owned by singer Alikiba.

On Monday, King Kiba used his socials to announce the signing of Kikeke as one of the radio and TV hosts who have joined his camp.

In his message, Kiba confessed that he has always admired Kikeke’s work ethic and talent and was yearning to work with him.

He went on to state that Kikeke’s experience in the media industry will help propel Crown Media to the next level.

“My Brother @salim_kikeke hii ilikuwa ndoto na maono tuliyokuwa nayo muda mrefu. Wakati unafanya maamuzi ya kurudi Nyumbani Tanzania tulipata nafasi ya kuzungumza na nikakueleza kiu yangu yakutaka kufanya kazi na wewe Gwiji, Nguli na Mtaalam wa Tasnia hii ya Habari Afrika na Dunia,” Alikiba said in part. 

“Najua Simu zilikuwa nyingi sana lakini uliona CROWN ni sehemu sahihi sana kwako. Karibu kuwa sehemu ya Historia tunayoenda kuiandika pamoja. “Nimekuvisha Taji na CROWN Media tunaamini Hesabu zetu za Kimkakati zimekaa Sawa. Karibu sana Nyumbani @crownfmtz na @crowntvtz,”.

On his part, Salim Kikeke said that he is happy to join King Kiba’s media house. 

“Kwa heshima kubwa na taadhima nachukua nafasi hii kutangazia umma kujiunga rasmi na familia ya Ufalme. Huu ni ushirika ambao haujapata pengine kutokea kuunganisha majina makubwa katika Sanaa na katika Habari. Tunaunganisha nguvu katika kupeleka mbele tasnia zetu,” Kikeke noted. 

“Huu ni mwanzo wa safari ndefu ya na kusisimua katika kuleta mapinzudi kwenye habari na muziki. Nimerudi nyumbani Tanzania kwa ajili ya jambo hili. Hapa ni Nyumbani. Karibuni sana. Karibuni nyote kwenye Ufalme,”.

Salim Kikeke quits BBC Swahili after 20 years

Seasoned media personality Salim Kikeke parted ways with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) after 20 years in April 2023. 

The legendary journalist thanked the BBC management for the opportunity to work with them over the years.

“I have had a good time here in London since I joined BBC Radio, then TV… I’m going to do other things and today is going to be my last day to host Dira ya Dunia). I’m leaving here because of personal reasons and sometimes it’s important to know when to leave,” Kikeke said. 

He also expressed his gratitude towards his colleagues at BBC stating that he has enjoyed working with them.

"I want to thank my colleagues that I have worked with here at BBC and in other places I have worked before I joined BBC. They have all contributed to building the person I am today.

“I’m here to thank the Almighty God who has enabled me t be here and to you my viewer for always watching and supporting me) ” Salim Kikeke said.

Kikeke has left BBC together with his colleagues Mariam Omary and Suluma Kassim.

Salim who joined BBC back in 2003 hails from Tanzania and he has won several awards for his exemplary work. 

Kikeke attended Birkbeck, University of London from 2011-2015, where he received a Bachelor's degree in international relations and affairs. 

In 2014 and 2015 he won the award for Best TV Presenter in Tanzania at the People’s Choice Awards.

He was reporting on events across Africa as well as commentating on EPL Football commentator in Kiswahili.
