• The rapper is famously private about his nuclear family and keeps them away from the limelight.

Legendary singer Herbert Nakitare aka Nonini is getting candid about his early life, growing up in a one-parent home.

Speaking on the Iko Nini YouTube channel, the singer said that he regrets not having a relationship with his father, who was at the time a well-known former Politician.

He is born of a Kamba mother and a Luhya dad. When Herbert was born, his dad had left and remarried.

Nonini was informed that his father's arrest and jailing while his mum was pregnant with him led to his parent's separation.

When he was freed, and did not return to his family.

"I didn't have a relationship with him. He is well known, even when I started music many accused me of being a rich kid of a politician. But this wasn't the case."

He defended himself saying, "People say I have never hustled, We ni mtu soft soft. But I was born and brought up in Calif. For my sisters and brother, he was in their life, but for me, there's a 10-year gap and he wasn't in my life. They know him differently and I know him differently."

He has never pursued a relationship, unlike his siblings. "I think they communicate. I care less," The veteran genge musician explained.

The rapper is a father of a son and is raising him in the USA. "I try to give him what I didn't get. I try to balance coz I can overdo it," he admitted.
