Gospel artist Fredrick Karumba aka DJ Krowbar says he would never work for a Christian media station.
This is despite him being a big believer. Krowbar started his DJ career in 2004 at age 19.
Sharing his experience with Cate Rira on her Podcast POV, Krowbar shared about how he won the Best DJ award despite entering a competition planned by a beer company.
"When I won the Pilsner Mfalme DJ competition in 2008,It was a media nightmare for EABL.
When I entered the competition I knew I would not play secular music. EABL was looking for the best DJ to promote their brand Pilsner.
I registered playing gospel music and I won. At the end of the day they awarded me.
They felt they had a lot to explain if they awarded someone else.
I went for all their marketing tour."
Krowbar says despite him being a gospel artist, he has never wanted to work with gospel media houses adding that he prefers being on the ground.
"I am called for those people out there.
I am not called to shepherd believers, I am called for people out there. I am an evangelist.
That is why I have never worked with a Christian media house and it's not like I have not gotten offers. I turn them down.
When I go DJ in this environment there is an innate connection. As a believer there are systematic when going to play in clubs."
Further adding;
"You have to take authority of that club. I never go alone, I go with at least three people.
Before I perform in an entertainment joint, I go pray and claim the space and remind myself that I am representing God.
I have been booed before but rejection in this kind of work makes you grow a thick skin."
